Data Team Updates

Data Manager
We have been observing civil society organizations in Bloomington for more than two and a half years and have conducted enough observations to now shift more of our attention toward analyzing the data and publishing our findings.
To prepare for this next phase, we formed a Data Team that spent last summer cleaning the OCE dataset. The dataset now includes more than 2,500 observations and roughly 1,500 variables that can help answer questions about a wide range of topics relevant to civil society, including decision-making, leadership, organizing, and mobilizing.
These topics may sound familiar from your own observing experiences. As the project expands in Idaho, Iowa, and New York, our data will continue to grow along with the range of questions we can answer about civil society more broadly. Look out for future updates as this work continues to develop.
We have begun distributing data packages to participating organizations that includes some of the data we collect so they can see trends along organization and community lines.
